Adopt-A-County-Road Program

Looking for ways to improve our community and keep Lenawee County beautiful? The LCRC Adopt-a-County-Road Program gives you the opportunity to adopt a road at no cost to help prevent litter from piling up along our roads.

How Do You Adopt A Road?

Applications for the Adopt-a-County-Road program are available online here and must be submitted to the LCRC. You may request a specific stretch of road (minimum of 2 miles.) Groups are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis!

Contact us at (517) 265-6971 or by e-mail at [email protected] if you are interested in adopting a road!

Who Can Adopt A Road?

To adopt a road, you must have a group of seven or more persons. Participants between the ages of 12-17 must be supervised by an adult at a ratio of 1 adult per 3 children. Participants under the age of 12 must be approved.

What is Required of Participants?

All groups participating in the program will clean their selected roads 3 times each year. Cleanups are scheduled on these weekends:

  • May 9th-17th
  • July 18th-26th
  • September 28th-October 4th

Why Should I Adopt a Road?

Litter accumulates on the side of roads and highways at a staggering rate. Nearly half of all Americans admit to littering on the road at least once in their life. While some litter degrades, materials like plastic will stay along the roadside for decades unless cleaned up.

Adopting a road lets you make a difference by choosing a stretch of road to keep clean. When you help to remove litter, you will reduce contamination of our natural resources, improve the look of our county and feel pride for helping to better the area you call home.

Is There a Cost to Adopt a Road?

No. The LCRC Adopt-a-County Road program has no fees. Participants are only required to fulfill the commitment of their three cleanups a year on their assigned road.
